Chester head to the Welford Road ground of South Leicester RFC on Saturday looking for a third away win of the season. That would match last seasons performance on the road, although we had to wait until the end of February for that. This game marks the last road trip until December and would be a springboard for the team to mount a pre-Christmas assault on the top of the league.
South Leicester have endured a difficult period, losing all 4 games in October, at home to Hull Ionians and Wharfedale and unsuccesful on trips to Hinckley and Stourbridge. Their 3 victories this season have included two high scoring games at home to Macclesfield and Chester's nemesis Peterborough Lions. A tight derby match was won against Leicester Lions. The match with Tynedale ended in a 33-33 draw. That record leaves South Leicester lying 12th in League 2 North. Since promtion from National 3 Midlands after the 2014/15 season, a season where only 1 game was lost in a league that included Hinckley and Peterborough Lions, South Leicester have consolidated their place at this level without ever threatening either promotion or relegation.
Chester will be picking from a squad without Andy Baston, injured on the weekend, but bolstered with the return of Shay Owen and Tom Holloway. Last season, an agonising one point defeat at Welford Road couldn't be avenged as the return fixture fell foul of the weather and no rearranged match was required as the result wouldn't affect issues at the top and bottom of the table.
Kick off on Saturday is 14:15.
