Jan Deventer takes his unbeaten 1st XV to Dore Moor on Saturday 22nd, the home of Sheffield Tigers. Tigers, player/coached by Jamie Broadley, have made an encouraging start to the 2018/19 season and are currently lying 5th, two places below Chester.
A narrow opening day defeat to current league leaders Hull Ionians has been followed by impressive victories over Stourbridge and South Leicester. In both games the Tigers overcame much larger packs and a forward orientated game plan initiated by their opponents.
Dore Moor has a reputation for unpredictable weather and skipper Colin Campbell will be ensuring his team are prepared for all eventualities come kick off time.
Chester completed the double over the Tigers last season. A narrow 10-13 win in Sheffield was the only bright point in a difficult pre-Xmas period for the 1st XV but the return match in March was a different story as a dominant Chester performance resulted in a 59-7 victory.
Sheffield Tigers finished 10th last season, but only 6 points above the relegation zone as the bottom half of the table became more congested in the later stages of the season.
Kick off on Saturday is 3pm and, as ever, all travelling support will be warmly welcomed. Take a scarf.
