This was a 7 try win for Chester against a Tynedale side that stayed in the fight but were outpaced in the second half writes Des Hickie
Chester began with a Heaton penalty, but the visitors hit back as centre Will Miller broke 45 metres down the right wing against some weak defending. On 20 minutes Chester scrumhalf Charlie Craven darted through a narrow gap to score following some strong forward carries. The home captain, Ben Ivory, pictured, then made a clean midfield break and stepped his way through a despairing defence to score. But the game was still evenly poised and Tynedale winger Seamus Hutton pulled a score back, as Tynedale’s pack carried powerfully and Chester ran out of defenders.
At 17-12 the game was in the balance for the second period, but Chester struck quickly on 41 minutes when flyhalf Rhys Hayes exposed a defensive dogleg for Harry Wilkinson to crash over. Ivory then broke past 3 defenders to score - which materially settled the result. Hutton pulled one back on 51 minutes taking a well-placed cross kick. Thereafter it was all Chester, with 2 Jonny Hanson tries from driven lineouts and a hat-trick for Ivory following yet another break by Hayes.
