The Under 7 Superstars of Chester Rugby Club

Reflecting on the first 10 weeks into our new season, the U7 team coaches and management are so proud and amazed at how well and quickly the kids have transitioned from the U6s, where training is focused on the most fundamental of skills, to playing other Rugby Clubs all over the Northwest at Tag Rugby.

Rugby is a very challenging game to understand as an adult, so imagine the kids trying to grasp “you must pass the ball backwards, to go forwards”. What a crazy rule I say. But what an amazing rule at the same time. Once the kids were able to grasp this concept, everything else fell into place nicely.

The RFU Core values are Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful coaches that volunteer their time and effort to help coach and teach not just the amazing game of rugby but coach the game whilst ensuring the kids follow and indirectly learn these important core values, values that we have all played by over the years.

The Chester U7s have been very fortunate to play some really good teams so far, teams that were in the same situation of having only trained within their own groups. These clubs and coaches have shared our views on the game, ensuring a blend of healthy competition, engagement and maximising involvement of those young players wanting to play the game.
The most rewarding aspects that we have witnessed so far are the various developments of the players. Looking back to the start of the season, there were some kids that were way too nervous to step onto the pitch. Reflecting on the Tri Fixture with Winnington Park and Wirral today, it was awesome to see those kids, scoring tries, grabbing tags, high-fiving their teammates and, most importantly playing with a huge smile on their faces. “What an Ethos Rugby has”.
We want to say a massive well done to the U7 kids and their awesomeness. Keep it going, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead over the rest of the season.
